We start this week with an article which highlights the UK moving closer to the US system with non-compete clauses in contracts of employment.(1)The TUC are calling for a COVID enquiry to address the failings of sick pay during the pandemic.(2)Irwin Mitchell, the firm of solicitors, has surveyed businesses and discovered that 15% of managers are not confident when dealing with grievances raised by trans employees.(3) Personnel Today report on a case where a man with cerebral palsy was told by his employer not to ‘play the disability card.’(4) Indian workers make up the largest foreign group granted UK work visa’s reports Indian Eye.(5)

Are the CBI’s days numbered?  Following sexual misconduct allegations its membership has fallen by a third prompting job cuts.(6)The British Chambers of Commerce have set up a rival entity, The Business Council, presumably to fill the vacuum.(7)We finish this week with a report from the TUC on how austerity left the UK so unprepared for the COVID pandemic.(8)
