‘April showers bring May flowers’ as that tidiest of English sayings goes. So this month’s annual uprating in benefits and allowances designated by the state has been announced. So amongst other things there is an increase in the rates of the National Minimum Wage which this year increases from £7.83 to £8.21 per hour, an increase of 38p per hour for over 25’s. In the same breath there are increases in the minimum contribution rates for defined contribution schemes for all auto-enrolment pensions. National Insurance contributions, Tribunal Compensation Limits and Statutory sick and maternity rates will also see an increase. For more information on all of these see(1) .
